Wagner Gala

The orchestra of what for many music lovers is the world’s most im-portant festival, the Wagner Festival in the German city of Bayreuth, will round off the inaugural weekend of Abu Dhabi Classics. Christian Thielemann will conduct a concert of excerpts from Richard Wagner’s Ring. And this unprecedented Wagner Gala will be accompanied by a host of podium talks, film presentations and introductions: a collabora-tion between the Abu Dhabi Classics Academy, the Abu Dhabi Rich-ard Wagner Society and the University of Paris-Sorbonne in Abu Dhabi.

The waiting time for tickets to the Bayreuth Festival is seven to ten years, and opportunities to experience its orchestra at a guest ap-pearance outside of Bayreuth are all but unheard of. This unique en-semble is drawn from the finest musicians of German and other Euro-pean orchestras and normally comes together only between June and August. Abu Dhabi is thus offering an unparalleled musical encounter for Wagnerians and anyone longing to become one.
