Abu Dhabi Classics Academy
Chinese superstar pianist Lang Lang in school
masterclass, discussion, children`s concert
But let the composers themselves have their say: Richard Wagner described the Vienna Philharmonic as “one of the world‘s greatest“; Anton Bruckner called it “the finest of all musical associations“; Johannes Brahms counted himself its devoted “friend and admirer“; Gustav Mahler claimed to be joined to the orchestra by “the bonds of musical art“; while Richard Strauss declared: “All praise of the Vienna Philharmonic reveals itself as understatement“. No further comment is necessary. In the person of Zubin Mehta, recipient of virtually every major distinction the (musical) world has to offer, the podium will be graced by one of the greatest conductors of our time.
With Mehta and the Vienna Philharmonic joined by Chinese pianist Lang Lang as soloist, this Abu Dhabi Classics concert brings together some of the most exciting musicians in classical music today. And the programme - from the overture to Wagner‘s opera Rienzi to Richard Strauss‘s tone-poem Ein Heldenleben - encompasses works by composers with whom the Vienna Philharmonic had especially close connections.
