Interview
„Shostakovich on Shostakovich“ – A conversation with Dmitri Shostakovich’s son Maxim.
During the course of his exile in the US, Maxim Shostakovich ap-peared with most of the leading North American orchestras, including those of Boston, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Toronto. In 1994, he returned to his Rus-sian motherland and again conducted regularly in St. Petersburg and Moscow.
As the authentic and predestined interpreter of his father’s music, he has recorded all of Dmitri Shostakovich’s symphonies and initiated a major Shostakovich Festival in London’s famous Royal Al-bert Hall. With London’s Philharmonia Orchestra he will make his Abu Dhabi Classics debut in an all-Russian programme featuring his fa-ther’s Fifth Symphony, the work that represents a heroic manifesto of artistic freedom. Before that, we will hear one of the greatest violinists of the younger generation, Sergey Khachatryan, as soloist in Tchaikovsky’s stirring Concerto.
