Symphonic Masterworks – Scandinavian Landscapes

An evening of Nordic music by the composers Jean Sibelius and Ed-vard Grieg as well as Tchaikovsky’s beloved Fourth Symphony, trav-ersed by Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy Orchestra under Finnish maes-tro Jukka-Pekka Saraste. This programme features the ever-popular Peer Gynt Suite – synonymous for many music lovers with the wide vistas of the Scandinavian landscape. The concert will also conclude and crown the Abu Dhabi masterclass for aspiring conductors and guest auditors from all over the world, to be led by world-famous Si-belius Academy professor Jorma Panula, known as the „Maestro of the Maestros“.

Before taking up his post in 2006 as music director of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Jukka-Pekka Saraste served as music director of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and as principal guest conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. As a guest conductor, he is regularly in demand by leading orchestras in North America, Europe and Asia, including the London Philharmonic and Philharmonia, Tokyo’s NHK Symphony, Munich’s Bavarian Radio Symphony, Dresden’s Staatskapelle and the Chicago and Boston Symphony orchestras. And he is a former pupil of Jorma Panula at the Sibelius Academy.
