Classic at the Movies - The Lord of the Rings Symphony

The premiere of the United Abu Dhabi Children’s Choir: in this symbolically charged concert, young singers from various Emirates schools will make music together with one of the leading German broadcasting orchestras, the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie. Several Abu Dhabi schools began as early as September 2008 rehearsing Howard Shore’s Oscar®-winning score for the Tolkien trilogy The Lord of the Rings. Just as Tolkien juxtaposed different worlds in his classic novel, the score created for the film version by Howard Shore – bor-rowing from Richard Wagner’s leitmotif technique – brings together diverse musical worlds. And this concert of Abu Dhabi Classics also brings different worlds together – young singers from the Emirates and professional colleagues from Europe – for a musical realization of Tolkien’s vision. And as special guest: the celebrated composer How-ard Shore in person. Anyone still not familiar with his name will surely recognize the music of this three-time Oscar®-winner, one of director Mar - tin Scorsese’s chief collaborators, responsible for the music of such films as Gangs of New York, The Aviator and The Departed as well as The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, Ed Wood and Eastern Promises. The Lord of the Rings evening in Abu Dhabi promises to be a momentous musical and visual experience.
