Symphonic Masterpieces - Mahler’s „Resurrection“ Symphony

The Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino played a leading role in the founding of the festival of that name in 1933. After Salzburg’s, Florence’s May Festival is one of Europe’s oldest. Its list of conductors is long, their names prominent: Victor de Sabata, Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Wilhelm Furtwängler, Bruno Walter, Otto Klemperer, Erich Kleiber, Dimitri Mitropoulos, Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, Claudio Abbado, Carlos Kleiber, Sir Georg Solti and Seiji Ozawa. Richard Strauss, Pietro Mascagni, Paul Hindemith, Igor Stravinsky and many other composers have conducted the orchestra in their own works.

At Abu Dhabi Classics, the Florence orchestra and chorus will present Mahler’s colossal Second Symphony, familiarly known as the „Resurrection“, under the baton of Indian conductor Zubin Mehta. The concert will take place in the impressively atmospheric Jahili fort in Al Ain, the flower-be - decked oasis city east of the capital Abu Dhabi.
